Garden Club
Club Goals
The Lake California Garden Club was formed in October, 2003. In January of 2004, we became a charter member of the California Garden Clubs, Inc., Cascade District, Pacific Region, and the National Garden Clubs, Inc.
- To further interests of gardening in the community
- To further the education of those interested in gardening through shared knowledge and experiences, educational workshops, field trips, and guest speakers
- To encourage the sharing and joy of gardening with others in a friendly and fun environment
- To enhance the overall appearance of the community
Club Projects
Beautification Projects – Over the years, the committee has focused on the front entrance to Lake California and the Firehouse. Other projects will follow
Community Garden Boxes are made available to Lake California residents. For an application, contact the Garden Club,
Memorial Rose Gardens are at the L.C. Lake Club entrance. Memorial roses with plaques may be purchased for $50.
Daffodils are planted each year along Lake California Drive. We are expanding!
Edgewater Park – Ground was broken in November 2014. The park is still being created. It has drought-tolerant, deer-resistant, and native plants. The paths are lined with hand-painted rocks.
Student Scholarships – Each year, we offer one scholarship to a local student pursuing a career in horticulture, agriculture, forestry, or environmental studies.
Holiday Lights Contest – Garden Club members visit all holiday light displays. The Garden Club and POA fund the prizes
A Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony takes place each December. All are invited to attend the lighting and decorating of the Garden Club’s blue spruce tree. There will be singing and a visit from Santa!
Yard of the Season – Our Garden Club members go out each autumn, spring and summer to find the most beautiful garden. The winner is recognized with a sign in the yard and a plant gift (or certificate).
Meeting Information
- We meet the second Wednesday of ech month at Lake California Clubhouse.
- There’s a Potluck Luncheon at 12 noon.
- We have a speaker at 12:45 pm with Business to follow.
- Guest speakers are invited to lecture and demonstrate gardening techniques. Question and answer periods follow the presentations.
- Tours are usually planned for the May and June meetings
